About this product

Roberto Clemente Men’s Hoodie – Pittsburgh Pirates Number 21 Fanwear Represent the remarkable career and humanitarian legacy of Roberto Clemente with this men’s hoodie from Players Couture. Created for Pittsburgh Pirates supporters, Puerto Rican baseball fans and fanatics who admire sporting heroes with genuine purpose, it combines a comfortable everyday layer with a colourful tribute to “The Great One”. A stylish poster-inspired graphic of Roberto Clemente is positioned as a badge on the left chest. The compact artwork captures the strength, elegance and movement associated with Clemente while giving the hoodie a clean and versatile appearance. It is baseball clothing that can be worn to follow a game, travel or meet friends without feeling restricted to the ballpark. Clemente is remembered as one of the greatest right fielders ever to play baseball. His career brought 3,000 hits, four batting titles, 12 Gold Gloves, two World Series championships and a National League Most Valuable Player Award. Yet the respect attached to his name also comes from his commitment to helping others and speaking against injustice. Born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, in August 1934, Clemente showed exceptional sporting ability from an early age. He signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers organisation and spent the 1954 season with the Montreal Royals. Pittsburgh recognised his potential and selected him through the Rule 5 Draft, bringing him into the major leagues for the 1955 season. Clemente remained with the Pittsburgh Pirates throughout his 18-year major-league career. He played all 2,433 of his games for the club, becoming closely connected with the city while also carrying the pride and expectations of Puerto Rican and Latin American baseball supporters. Brilliance at the Plate and in Right Field Clemente developed into an outstanding contact hitter capable of driving the ball to every part of the field. He won the National League batting title four times, producing a .351 average in 1961, .339 in 1964, .329 in 1965 and .357 in 1967. He completed 13 seasons with a batting average above .300. His excellence extended throughout the game. Clemente won 12 consecutive Gold Glove Awards between 1961 and 1972, establishing a record for right fielders that still stands. He could cover large areas of the outfield and possessed an exceptionally powerful, accurate throwing arm. His 266 career outfield assists demonstrate how regularly he turned potential advances into outs. Clemente was selected for 15 All-Star Games across 12 seasons. During the years when baseball staged two All-Star contests, he earned appearances in both games. His sustained recognition reflected the consistency with which he performed at the highest level. In 1966, Clemente batted .317 with 29 home runs, 119 runs batted in and 105 runs scored. He received the National League Most Valuable Player Award, becoming the first Pirates player to win the honour since Paul Waner in 1927. A World Series Hero for Pittsburgh Clemente’s first championship arrived in 1960 when Pittsburgh faced a heavily favoured New York Yankees side. He registered a hit in all seven games, batted .310 and drove in three runs. The Pirates won the deciding contest through one of the most famous home runs in baseball history, giving Clemente the first of his two World Series titles. The Pirates returned to the World Series in 1971 against Baltimore. Pittsburgh lost the opening two games, but Clemente’s performances helped transform the series. He recorded at least one hit in every game and finished with a .414 batting average, two home runs and four runs batted in. Clemente produced a home run during the deciding seventh game as Pittsburgh secured a 2–1 victory. He was named World Series Most Valuable Player, becoming the first Latin American player to receive the award. His success created an unforgettable source of pride for supporters in Puerto Rico and across the wider Caribbean. His connection with Caribbean baseball extended back to the beginning of his career. During the winter of 1954–55, Clemente played for Santurce alongside Willie Mays. The celebrated Puerto Rican team won both its domestic league and the Caribbean Series championship, with Clemente contributing to one of the strongest outfields assembled in the competition. The 3,000-Hit Milestone Clemente entered the 1972 season approaching one of baseball’s most significant career landmarks. On 30 September, he struck a double to record hit number 3,000. The achievement made him only the 11th major-league player to reach that total. He finished his career with exactly 3,000 hits and a .317 batting average. His record also included 440 doubles, 166 triples, 240 home runs, 1,305 runs batted in and 1,416 runs scored. Clemente hit safely in every game of both the 1960 and 1971 World Series, showing how reliably he performed when Pittsburgh needed him most. His career achievements were even more significant because of the barriers he confronted
